when they was young and don't use the body to get money

The other day I was going through some old CDs of mine (please bear in mind that, being sixteen and apparently a late bloomer music-wise, my 'old CDs' are mostly Kidz Bop) and found a blank white CD with the title 'Naomi #5'. I remembered that for her 5th birthday (in 2001-ish), my friend Naomi's dad had made a mix CD of all of her favourite songs and handed copies of this precious gem of a mix out to all the guests. I immediately started playing the mix and it was so incredibly perfect that I felt I had to share it.
I made an 8tracks specifically for this one CD and was at first unaware that you could actually upload more than eight tracks to it; by the time I figured that out, I couldn't be bothered to add any more, so the playlist (if you're interested) only contains my eight favourites.
Total Naomi #5 Tracklist:
- Mambo No. 5 - Lou Bega - this is actually the ultimate opening track to any mix CD. it's ridiculously catchy, and also, he mentions 'Jessica' in the part where he lists off his many girlfriends, and I remember being so absurdly pleased that my name was in there that I didn't even notice that I was sharing the "here I am" with Angela, Pamela, Sandra, and Rita.
- Livin' la Vida Loca - Ricky Martin
- Dancing Queen - ABBA
- Mamma Mia - ABBA
- Wannabe - Spice Girls - this is one of the few songs on the CD that I actually apparently liked so much, it was on my iTunes before I had to import it. shhh.
- Spice Up Your Life - Spice Girls
- Believe - Cher - pretty much the only tie my generation has to Cher.
- Hot Hot Hot - Buster Poindexter - it is now impossible for me to hear this without thinking of Michael Scott with his tiny Rasta braid and miniature steel pan.
- C'est la Vie - B*witched - this is one of the absolute best tracks on the CD. choice lyric: "I'll show you mine if you show me yours." also, I found this video on tumblr that I think is relevant and brilliant and possibly seizure-inducing (the pitch is edited):
- Who Do You Think You Are - Spice Girls
- Take a Chance On Me - ABBA
- Medley: Quit Playing Games With My Heart - Backstreet Boys; Say You'll Be There - Spice Girls; Everybody (Backstreets Back) - Backstreet Boys; Wannabe - Spice Girls; We've Got it Going On - Backstreet Boys; Get Down - Backstreet Boys; Who Do You Think You Are - Spice Girls - okay, I'm not completely sure if this is a legitimate medley or if Naomi's dad was just the best human ever, but this track is one of the best things I've ever heard. an all Backstreet Boys/Spice Girls medley featuring all of their biggest hits!!!?!1!!? LET'S ALL DO THE MACARENA AND EAT LUNCHABLES IN DELIGHT (okay so a lot of my knowledge of 90s culture comes from those stupid "90s kid!" statuses in my Facebook newsfeed).
- I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys
- The Lion Sleeps Tonight - *NSYNC - this is another gem to be cherished; not only is it the 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight", but out of roughly sixty possible covers of this (check on Wikipedia!), the choice for the CD was the *NSYNC version. just... perfect.
- Oops... I Did It Again - Britney Spears
- Candy - Mandy Moore
- Sometimes - Britney Spears
Certified AMG Track Picks (lulz i have no idea what im doing): Mambo No. 5, C'est La Vie, the Backstreet/Spice medley, and The Lion Sleeps Tonight - all of which are on the 8tracks list.
I will leave you with the top comment on the Youtube video for the *NSYNC cover:
*crying again*
